D24.345 Rhizome of Air - Prison of Mistbeard the Worldslayer

An infernal demiplane that contains the Rhizome of Air, one the 7 ancient, transcendent arcane nodes responsible for creating the Rootwall which barred the Dwarves of Craagveald from delving deeper.

The demiplane spans a seemingly infinite area heavily obscured by warm mist that severely impedes breathing.

As one was wanders the area, they may come across strange gnarly trees that seem to emanate hot mist that appears to be responsible for the environment.

These trees are covered in numerous deep cuts and appear to be on the verge of being torn apart, occasionally vibrating as it exhales mist. The trees are guarded by wood and steam elementals and a giant wooden Garuda.

An expert arborist or druid may identify the tree as extremely rare Sealwood, capable of being harnessed by only the most formidable of druids to cast spells that are able to seal off great magical and physical prowess. A small piece of it could be turned into an extremely powerful weapon or life saving talisman.

To harvest the wood one may need a tool made from legendary materials.

Taking 2 chunks of it will cause the tree to shatter apart and cause the demiplane to tremor.

There are 7 of these trees, and breaking 3 of them will cause Mistbeard to awaken.

Mistbeard is a colossal serpentine faerie dragon 50x100ft in size who breathes very hot mist throughout his body, which perpetually forms around his face like an ethereal beard.

Getting to close to his mist may cause one to be subject to unbearably hot temperatures.

Due to the remaining trees sealing him, there is not much he can do other than speak.

When awakened, he will call any adventurers in the demiplane to find him, which will lead one to the Rhizome of Air which is sealed off a very formidable and healthy Sealwood Tree.

Nearby is also Mistbeard's sword, which is 30x80ft in size, and made of legendary materials and set with magical diamonds.

He will ask any visitor to free the other parts of his body, offering his sword which he will lend a person (and transform to a smaller size) which can more easily cut the trees, and promises to help destroy the Sealwood Tree protecting the Rhizome of Air.

When freed however he will suddenly disappear along with his sword we which will magically disappear from its users grasp.

After around an hour, one will hear him roar furiously and begin to attack all creatures in the demiplane.

Should one be able to read his mind or somehow converse with him despite his fury, they will discover that those who imprisoned him placed a deadly seal on his heart, which will activate should the Rhizome of Air be taken.

Should one be able to somehow break the seal in his heart, he will agree to follow the person and help them to the best of his ability for 10 years.

Otherwise, he will eventually calm down and hide in the mists, making sure to slay any visitor of the demiplane as fast as he can.
