The grade of one's filtration was split into several tiers named after the poetic names five fingers of one's hand, namely the digits of Grasping, Projecting, Reaching, Binding and Releasing.

Disregarding Palm residue, which symbolized utter failure, Grasping Residue was the mark of basic adequacy and Releasing Residue was the mark of transcendence.
