As time passed, Kur-Aked, in his solitude and starvation, grew in madness.
His attempts to scale the canyon were futile, for the thorns that coiled about every crop of rock pierced his flesh and drew his blood until he fainted and found himself at the bottom of the canyon time and time again.
The meagre amount of barley he grew could not subsist his strong body, which in turn wasted.
