T25.6 The Featherstrummer, Part 2
Gumue hummed a slow melody that fell on the top of her mind as she accompanied it with harmonic strums of her lyre.
Though the tempo of the tune was slow, Gumue occasionally plucked a few wrong notes, which was only barely obfuscated by her humming.
But these mistakes seemed not to be noticed by the adorable Lady Kau, who looked at Gumue with a wide smile on her face.
Gumue could not help but grimace internally.
Though she could remember the art of the lyre and considered herself decent at singing, she could tell she was not doing a particularly good job.
If she were to make such a poor performance to her mentor, there would be little doubt she would be in for a barrage of creative insults.
"You pluck strings like fat handed toad trying to massage a cricket..." the unimpressed voice of her mentor echoed in her mind as she played an uninspiring glissade of notes as the closing section of her improvised song.
Lady Kau clapped her hands happily to which Gumue gave a bitter smile as she heard the soft snort from the red cloaked bodyguard seated at the corner of the wagon close to the wagon driver.
"When we're at the Twin Sprigs, you should give a performance! So everyone can enjoy your song!" Lady Kau innocently praised, to which a snicker could be just barely heard from cloaked bodyguard.
"Of course I will..." Gumue tried her best to suppress her urge to jump off the wagon in embarrassment as she sustained her smile and mumbled.
In truth, Gumue knew was a poor musician, and the whole reason her Featherstrummer mentor decided to guide her was not for her talent in music.
But Gumue threw those thoughts to the back of her head. After all it was better to enjoy the trip free of vexation before she reached her destination.
There would be no shortage of such afterwards, she knew.
As Gumue began to feel more calm as she distracted herself with the scenery, the serenity was quickly shattered by the abrupt stopping of the wagon which nearly threw her off her seat.
