Original TRPG "Project S" + Replay

During the year end break, I created a very streamlined TRPG ruleset that offers a unique "inference" mechanic that can make sessions quite intense.

Central to this ruleset is getting players to use their characters' skills to rationalise unique ways to tackle various challenges, only exclusive to them because of their specialisation in certain skills.

The best part about this system is that the whole player character sheet has only 6 items which are in total only about 13-16 words at most.

My new year's resolution is to turn this TRPG idea into a PDF with more content (already drafted 22 pages in the past 2 days) and try sell it for maybe a kroner somewhere, though I will definitely share the raw mechanics in this blog and as a separate PDF when its more refined.

Below is a replay of a solo RPG session that I played to test the system, and so far it seems to produce quite a gripping narrative.

Swamp of the Frog Shaman

Seeking the sacred yellowstripe frog, Leonardis the Poisoner reaches the fabled Swamp of the Frog Shaman, intent of claiming this rare frog to add to his collection of poisons.

Room 1

Leonardis finds a number of unattended chests.
Leonardis finds them empty.
But this triggers an alarm.
A troop of 3 frog spearmen approach!
Round 1
Leonardis attacks. With his Rapier alone, he skewers 2 frogs on their legs, leaving them unable to act! Frog Spearmen mount an attack in a formation.
Leonardis uses his Rapier to Parry them.
Frog Spearmen aim for his torso.
The Frog Spearmen's formation pierce at him, striking his chainmail shirt.
Its chains remain robust and shrugs off the damage.

 Round 2
Leonardis attacks the remaining Frog Spearman's legs and causes him to fall. In the same exchange, Frog Spearman attempts to attack but fails to get past his armor.

Round 3
With all spearmen down, Leonardis finishes them off.

Room 2

After dispatching his foes, Leonardis moves to a bridge area stealthily, trying to avoid more conflicts.

He finds 5 frogspearmen led by a Frog elite.
Alas, due to the loud sound of the earlier conflict and his chainmail, he is spotted by them.
Not wanting to face 6 creatures, Leonardis attempts to run, expending greater effort to run faster to outrun them.

Room 3

Unfortunately, he only runs into yet more foes.
This time 3 flamingo riding frog calvarymen called the Frogmingo Riders. Deciding he cannot outrun them, he decides to engage them in combat.

Round 1 Leonardis this time decides to aim for their heads. He dispatches one. But the Frogmingo Riders approach him in formation. Their attack damages his chainmail.

Round 2 Leonardis proceeds to the next, dispatching another The last Frogmingo remains in formation for their attack. Leonardis' chainmail shrugs the thrust off.

Round 3 Leonardis finishes off the last one. After catching his breath, he proceeds across another bridge.

Room 4

Just as he crosses the bridge, he finds a Lare Red Frogman wielding a huge club.

The Frogman croaks in a unimpressed manner.

Round 1
Feeling threatened, Leonardis goes on the defensive.
He pools his entire focus in his Rapier to Parry Frogman's attack.
The frogman decides to test Leonardis and attacks with his Palm as a start.
Leonardis parries the attack and follows up with a Riposte. The attack strikes a vital point and Frogul is critically injured, passing out.

Round 2
Leonardis finishes off the Large Red Frogman with a Coup de Grace.

Room 5

Leonardis this time carefully examines the chest in the hut nearby. It is... The Yellow Striped Frog and the Scroll of Firestorm...!!! With his spoils, Leonardis makes for the exit...
