Nechronica Solo Session - Factory of the Dead


I just picked up the Nechronica rules after reading its ultra evocative setting. Reading through it gave me the shivers and feels and the solo session as well resulted in quite a lovely narrative. I.. uh also technically busted a few hours writing javascript macros to automate character generation. Might share the macro here when its more complete (need to add macros to randomly choose weapons etc based on class). Meanwhile, here is my attempt at a solo session using the 1st simple scenario from the rulebook.

Adventure Phase


Imani and Elize wake up in the machine room.


Elize wakes up first and teases Imani about her sleepiness and outfit.

Imani being kind of deadpan doesn’t react much but makes some laconic remarks.


“Anyways, let us find our way out of this dump – lead the way will you?” Elize speaks poshly as she points towards the door.


Imani recalls her memory (5) and remembers wandering into a large factory.


“I... I seem to recall that this is a factory”


“Are you sure? That means that you know the way out?”


“I’m afraid I can’t remember that much”


“Tut tut... How good is knowing just that to our current situation? Now my servant, head on out then!”


Imani looks back to the door and heads out.


In the corridor outside, they hear the strange sound humming from beyond the walls in the room earlier much more clearly and are able to discern that it is some sort of march with the follow lyrics:


"Stabilize your centre! Do not break your focus!"

"Work is sweet, What are you doing?! Do not rest!"

"Do not rest until you win!"

"Do not attack! Continue with your work!"


“What the deuce is this cacophony? Would you keep quiet!?” Elize shouts – but the sound still continues.


Imani just quietly continues on ahead until the both reach a large metal door from which the cacophony seems to grow.


“So it appears this bad singing is coming from past this door,” Elize remarks.


“Imani will you open this up and tell them to cease their terrible singing.”


Imani pushes the heavy door open.


With a loud and annoying sounding metallic creak, the door is pushed inwards, leaving an unsightly mark on the ground.


Beyond appears to be a factory room of a ceiling soars meters above.


The military sound is the loudest hear, and seems to come from the top alongside the symphony of machinery.


Assembling parts along a conveyor belt and operating machines appears to be numerous rotting people with their heavily worn work overalls completely damaged and filthy.


And in the middle of the room where parts are being manually delivered appears to be a colossal corpse almost reaching 6 meters of height.


[Both succeed Madness check]

“WILL YOU STOP SINGING” Imani bellows with a deadpan voice.


The zombies continue their work.


Elize, slightly taken aback by Imani’s unexpectedly loud voice is silent for a moment before eventually speaking.


“Hmm... I... it seems that the singing is not the work of people but by some manner of machinery. By the way my good servant – do you see that gargantuan being in the middle of the room?”


“Yes – is it a sculpture?”


“Yes... yes... that was what I was guessing too. You can see the parts of being assembled by those rather disheveled workmen. And though the texture of that sculpture appears rather grotesque, it is quite certainly a sculpture – one constructed by direction of bad taste no doubt.”


The dolls find some common ground at this bizarre sight (-1 Madness points each to fetters between one another) [Now 2]


Suddenly there is a loud alarm blaring to the girls’ right!


“Oh gosh, one sound after the next! SILENCE I SAY, SILENCE” Elize shouts as the sound rings through their ears.


The source of the sound appears to be a strange metallic dog of flesh, and accompanying this sound seems to be numerous footsteps from ahead – as the workers that ignored them earlier begin to gather.


And escalating this polonaise of terrible noise is the baritone that comes from the center of the factory proper – as the colossal sculpture rises from its resting place and begins to slowly approach the girls.

Count 12

Imani’s Turn -

Imani whips out her shotgun and fires at the Hound. (5+1 = 6) Success (-2 AP, now 10 AP)


Imani deals 2*2 = 4 damage – damaging the hound’s legs and spinal cord. It whimpers and falls to the ground, struggling from its wounds. [tail, left]


Unfortunately the buzzing sound still continues.



Count 11


Elize’s Turn


Elize twirls about unleashing a strange flesh whip from her left leg to lash at the fallen doge. (10 success) (-3 AP now 9)


The whipe cleaves through the dog’s android body, making it mangling it into a pulp of flesh and electronics. (Damage 2)


The buzzing ceases – The dog is annihilated!



Count 10


Goliath’s Turn


Goliath shambles over heavily with its long legs at approaches closer (Now in Limbo 6) (-8 AP, 2 AP left) now


Angrily, it sweeps its long arm towards Elize. (-3 AP, -1 AP left now)


Luckily, Elize ducks and moves out of the way by the hair of her skin.


Imani’s Turn


Imani quickly reloads her shotgun and takes aim at the Goliath. (6+1 Success) Damage 2*2 = 4


(-2 AP, Now 8)


Imani’s bullets rip out some of the Goliath’s Entrials, and damages its long arm, Muscles and Strange leg exoskeleton which flaps about in a precarious manner.





Count 9 – Elize


Elize, lashes out her flesh whip from her foot and whips the goliath again with tremendous force! (4 – fail. Unfortunately, she loses balance and quickly regains it, causing the whip to strike the concrete floor instead) (-3AP now 6)


Count 8


Zombie Soldiers’ Turn


There is the sound of pistols being loaded as standing in a row in front of Elize, a group of zombies in tattered slacks take fire. (9 Success) (-3 AP, now 5)


Elize tries to get out of the way but unfortunately is peppered by bullets that strike her arms damaging her fist and forearms!


“Ugh you vile brutes!” she yells.


Zombie’s Turn


The zombies try to strike at Elize at once, but they all miss (4 Fail) (-2 AP, now 6)


Imani’s Turn


Imani loads her shotgun and fires at the Goliath yet again! (6+1 Success) (-2 AP now 6)

Damage 2*2 = 4 – The pellets rip through bone, dislodge the spikes studded across its hands, Rips through its exoskeleton, and its armor platings!




Count 7 – No one

Zombie Soldier’s Turn


This time, the soldier aims at Imani to fire at.

With surprising accuracy, their bullets pepper through Imani’s head! Damaging her jaw and combat module 1! (-2 AP now 4 AP)


Zombie’s turn


The group of zombies continue to try to attack Elize. This time they succeed! Damaging her foot as she tries to get away. They try to follow up with another attack but miss. (-2 AP now 4 AP)


Imani’s Turn

Imani focuses her attention at the Goliath and takes aim (Concentration) – She almost misses likely dude to the damage to her head (4+1+1 = 6) (-2-2 AP, now 2 AP)


The bullets rip apart the goliath’s mask, and its spine, and its hands, and head!


The Goliath finally collapses – struggling against its wounds – still alive but unable to do anything useful!


“Excellent work servant! Now leave the rest to me!” Elize laughs as she does yet another twirl.


Count 5


Elize’s turn


With an elegant twirl, she unleashes her flesh whip yet again at the crowd of soldiers. Ripping apart their flesh. 2 of the 5 soldiers collapses (3 remain)


Chaining her attack she follows up with another successful lash, incapacitating another 2 soldiers. 1 remains.


(-3 AP, now 2)


Count 4


Zombie Soldier’s turn


The last remaining zombie soldier tries to fire but misses, striking the zombie horde instead. 2 Of the 10 zombies in the horde perish.


Zombie’s turn


The zombie horde continue their attack upon Elize, but she now easily dances out of the way while humming (-2 AP now 2)


Count 3 – None


Count 2

Zombie’s turn


The zombies try to attack Elize yet again but completely miss. (-2 AP now 0)


“Oh you pitiful plebians. You will never reach someone as nimble as I,” Elize boasts.


Elize’s Turn


Elize whips out her leg whip again, lashing at the final soldier (10) The sheer force rips it into two.


Following up with a chain she lashes at the zombie horde. Unfortunately this misses. (-3 AP now -1)


Imani’s Turn


Imani reloads and fires at the horde – (6+1) – Caught by the bullets, the 4 zombies perish. 4 Remain. (-2 AP now 0)



Turn End.


In this rondo of melee, the dolls find themselves covered in giblets, guts and rotten blood. All of this has filled their mind with a strange bloodlust curdling within them -


If it moves it must die.


Both gain +1 Madness to their fetter to one another. [Now 3]



Turn 2


Count 12

Imani immediately fires at the last 4 zombies. (10+1 = Critical Success) All the pellets strike at the remaining zombies, and they all explode into rotten pulp – covering their fancy dresses in foul smelling flesh and bone. (-2 AP now 10)


All that remains in the struggling goliath unable to move.


The both finish off the harmless Goliath.


Battle End


Both dolls treasures are intact and gain removed 1 madness from their treasures each.


As the battle ends, the sounds of machinery and working still continue though the sound of the marching music seems to have toned down a little, for some reason – perhaps slightly drowned by the heat of the savage melee that took place.


The other labor zombies in the factory appear to be unfazed by the battle and continue their assembly of other flesh sculptures deeper down the hall of this factory area.


“Ugh, these savage brutes. Now how am I going to hold my tea now that my arm is filled with so many holes? And you Imani, appear to be unable to drink any at all. I suppose I should consider myself lucky.”


Imani shrugs – unable to talk after getting her jaw removed.


“Well, lets go over – if the managed to assemble such a sculpture – there must surely be some parts to use to replace our damaged ones.”


The two head over to the conveyor belts and obtain 5 basic parts and 3 reinforcement parts.


Elize uses 3 basic parts to repair her arms and foot.


Imani uses 1 basic parts to repair her jaw, and finds a replacement combat chip to replace the damaged one.


“By gods, you call that a proper dressing?” Elize remarks as she rips apart a piece of relatively clean cloth from a nearby working zombie and uses it to cover the hole in at Imani’s bloody temple where she simply inserted the replacement combat chip.


Imani keeps silent. (Imani gains Makeshift Bandage from Elize [Head] as a Treasure)


“Tut tut, a little expression of gratefulness in order don’t you think?”

There is a few moments of relative silence from the both as Elize taps her foot expecting thanks from Imani, but there is none.


It appears that Imani was expecting thanks from Elize as she tilts her head to one side.


“Not from me you fool! From you!” Elize lightly smacks Imani with a rolled up newspaper placed conveniently somewhere.


“Hmm... this piece of paper is quite useful... It even has quite a nice watermark I must say” (Elize gains rolled up newspaper [Arm] as a Treasure)


“Thank you...” Imani says.


“Now my vacuous servant. Let us leave this terrible place. Surely you recognize the way out from here?”


Imani nods, as the both weave through corridors and eventually emerge outside the factory past a large red door left slightly ajar.



Beyond they gaze upon the red tinged wastes – revealing slightly a cold heavily scratched metallic texture in messy patches indicating their artificial nature.


Night is approaching, and a strange infernal chirping sound comes from faraway.


The moon above is shattered – glistening in the toxic sun’s rays – now corrupted by whatever fumes are snaking through the hellish empyrean.


“My, my, its quite sunny isn’t it?”


Imani nods.


“It would certainly be nice to have a parasol. Come my servant, let us go find one posthaste!”



Favor Gain

Both dolls gained a treasure and reached the factory area (+4 favor total)


Battle threat = 19, each girl gets 9 base favor


9+4 = 13 favor for each doll


Imani decides to remove Madness points – 2 from Treasure, and 1 from Elize. (-12 FP) 1 Favor Point Remains


Elize decides to learn a new skill (Feast of Flesh) (-10 FP), 3 Favor point Remains
