Quick Yoon Suin Hexcrawl: Session 3

Hi again everyone! Things are getting a bit exciting this session as we head into your first dungeon delve. As I haven't fully built the dungeon descriptions, traps and other stuff yet, the dungeons might seem a little boring, but I think I'm going to add more content and other flavours of dungeons soon before I start the next session. The current session gives a hint of what hex-describer is capable of and I can't wait to add more stuff so I can fully enjoy them solo rpgs in my favourite setting of Yoon Suin!

Now well rested, Mel decides to head out to adventure again.

1103 Bat’s Nest, Day 15 Afternoon

This time Mel decides to travel northeast of the Yellow City and as it begins to shower from the sky, comes across a Bat’s nest. As it is the day, and Mel doesn’t find the nest particularly interesting, she decides to set off again northeast.

1202 Yellow Jungle, Day 15 Evening

Traveling northeast, Mel’s party is suddenly met with a group of 23 hostile baboons!

Yes! The Baboons begin to flee, including the three currently pestering the party.

Since Surya is injured, Mel decides to return to town with the plan to hire more men to prevent her adventures from ending prematurely like for this encounter.

1103 Bat’s Nest, Day 15 Evening

While heading back southwest, Mel’s party hears a terrifying roar coming from inside the Bat’s nest caves, alongside the sight of many dead bats being burnt to a crisp. Judging from the prints on the ground, there is apparently a dragon on the loose.

Not wanting to risk being eaten by a dragon, Mel’s party continues southwest again.

1003 Yellow City, Day 15 Night

Now back in the Yellow City, Mel decides to have Surya rest while she tries to hire 6 more hirelings to serve as cannon fodder.

She manages to hire a contingent of 6 Great axemen who are mostly naked by are glad to work for her. She decides to pay them in advance (12 GP)

Now all rested up, Mel decides to challenge the jungle again.

1103 Bat’s Nest, Day 19 Afternoon

Rain starts to fall in droves, and thunder rumbles violently in the sky. But Mel decides to press on to the South east.

1203 Tin Mine, Day 19 Evening

Mel discovers a tin mine which is actively being worked by a human mining group. She asks for shelter from the rain for the time being, is her request agreed to?

Yes. Mel decides to spend the rest of the day waiting for the rain to subside while asking for rumors of the area. Does she learn anything?

No. The leader of the miners doesn’t know of any rumors in the vicinity, but while they wait, a few of the managers report back saying that they have discovered a squid-man shrine somewhere in the cave.

Deciding that this is worth checking out, Mel asks for permission to explore it with her party.

The leader, getting worried about her miners being possibly harmed, decides to agree to have the party explore the place. Excited at the possibility for finding loot and treasure, Mel gathers her party and sets off into the entrance of the discovered shrine…

1203 Tin Mine, Ancient Squid Man Shrine Day 19 Evening

Mel decides to lead the way, carrying a torch in her hand and a morning star in the other. AC 5. Following her by her side are the her party and the 6 great axemen in a V shape with her at the end of the V facing ahead of them.

1. Porch

This area is strangely windy and is decorated with numerous statues of squid men wearing arms and armor depicting the symbol of a snake. It leads straight ahead into darkness. Mel decides to press onwards without searching.

2. Guardroom

There is nothing here apart from fossilized guano. Mel presses on.

3. Kennels

A corridor stretches on. She continues forward, and as she does the floor creaks a bit and seems unstable. Being a dwarf, she uses her stonecunning to sense that the floor is loose and has a deep pit underneath, but is sturdy enough to take another 3 crosses. She orders her party to grab one end of the rope and she grabs the other, nailing it to the other side and asks Surya to tie her dagger on the other end. This would allow her to throw the rope on the other side and have the next guy rappel when it gives way.

And as Mel expected, after 2 more people cross she strikes at the floor plate and it gives way into a pit filled with dead crickets. She throws the rope back again and again and allow all the others to cross. Before the last guy crosses, she asks him to nail down another rope so they can climb back up again when they return.

4. Latrine

As Mel continues, she hears sounds of clicking bones, and running out of the Latrine are two undead squid-men holding tridents! (HD 2+1, AC 9) They were awoken by the crashing of floor in the previous room!

She order Surya and Ranga to throw oil flasks at the undead squid-men!

She orders Tanka to light another torch as she throws the torch at skeleton B!

It strikes Skeleton B and it erupts into flames (1 HD worth of damage)! Skeleton B HP: 4

She orders the party to take a defensive stance and wait for the skeletons to approach! The 6 great axemen take up formations in front of the main 4, and take up a parrying position!

Skeleton A charges the axe-men!

Skeleton B charges another axeman! But before that it comes into contact with the puddle of oil beneath its feet!

Seeing one of their companions fall, the Axemen begin to falter and retreat! Thankfully her main party’s resolve is firm. She orders her party to attack alongside her!

Mel moves forth with her morning star and shield and tries to strike at Skeleton A!

Surrounding Skeleton A, two axe men manage to land hits at the Skeleton, clobbering it to pieces! Axemen XP: 200/10’000

Having destroyed their foes, they decide to carry the dead axeman back to the mine to bury and agree to put off adventuring until the next day.

1203 Tin Mine, Day 20 Night

Mel reports about the undead squidmen to the leader of the mine, and they decide to block the entrance with bags of debris just in case, to prevent the undead from coming out and terrorizing the miners. After burying Axeman 2, they rest for the night in one of the empty workers’ quarters.

They decide to pay the mine quarters 2 GP per person for borrowing the quarters and for some basic food (18 GP)

As there is a pit that separates the entrance of the shrine to the mines, no undead manage to wander out of the shrine.

Determined to clear the shrine to make the mine truly safe, Mel set decides to off to the shrine again with her party at dawn tomorrow.

The party makes it back to the place where Axeman 2 fell without issue. This time she asks Surya to light a torch instead.

4. Latrine

The dead skeletons are still there where they left the battle. Mel presses on further now more cautious.

5. Caved in Room

She uses her stonecunning to check for traps and stuff in the stonework and discovers a row of pressure plates in the middle of the corridor. She tells that to the party and they continue without triggering the trap.

6. Crypt

There are a few tombs in here. But all of them are empty. She uses stonecunning again, and finds pressure plates at each tomb. Seeing how the tombs are already empty, she pressed forward.

7. Furnace

There is a large furnace here, and judging from the tools its used as a crematorium. There is a large staircase that leads down into a large stone gate. As the room is quite large she decides not to check the area for traps. She decides to leave the gate alone and pressed forward.

8. Prison

There are many empty cages here. She uses stone cunning and discovers pressure plate traps at the front of every cage. As the cages have nothing in them, she presses forward.

9. Vault

There are many empty shelves which surround a hexagonal pool of what looks like oil. She tries to check the room for any traps and pressure plates, but finds nothing. Not willing to risk getting into danger she decides to press on and leave the pool behind.

10. Throne Room

The party enters a large room with a throne at the center seated by a squid-man skeleton in a tall hat and tattered colorful robes. It is being attended to by 2 plain robed squid-man skeletons with tridents.

As the party enters the room, they stand and begin to approach the party!

Mel orders the party to take a defensive stance and await their attack. This time Mel orders her 4 to stand in front of the 5 axemen to parry the first attacks after which the axe-men are to counterattack.

The 2 plain skeletons charge at Ranga, while the tall hatted skeleton charges Surya!

The tall hatted skeleton is extremely swift, and though Surya manages to fend off its attacks, she is disarmed by the tall hatted skeleton’s skillful maneouvres with the trident!

The party emerges victorious! And Mel begins searching for treasure in the throne room…

She discovers:

She decides to keep the shield for herself, and split the rest of the treasure to the party equally when it is sold back at the Yellow City. She asks Ranga to keep it in his large sack.

1203 Tin Mine, Ancient Squid Man Shrine, Day 21 Afternoon

Having made a nice find, and certain that no more undead are left in the halls, she makes a note of all the dangers of the shrine and reports it to the mine leader, of course keeping the large stone gate a secret as she is certain it is not going to open easily even if someone were to sneak in the shrine in search of treasure.

The mine leader thanks them, and promises to send word of any new ruin they might discover so that they might keep his mine safe.

She then decides to lead the party back to the Yellow City to sell their treasure.

1103 Bat’s Nest, Day 21 Evening

The sky is cloudy and smoky heat rises from the ground. This time they see a forest giant (AC 4, HD 8, 2d6 damage) wandering the area… It carries a huge sack of stuff.

Does the giant notice the party?

Thankfully the giant doesnt even notice the party, and they continue back to the Yellow City.

1003 Yellow City, Day 21 Night

Now safe back in the city, Mel decides to sell the treasure and distribute the gold:

The treasures are worth 11’390 GP in total = 11’390 XP -> 1627 XP for each member. This brings Tanka to Level 2.

She decides to haggle to improve the price of the sale. Does it go in her favour?

Unfortunately she got outmaneouvered by the jewel merchants and only managed to gain 7630 GP, adding the loose money from the treasure that brings it to a total of 7633 GP, which she splits to all her men, without taking a single coin for herself.

With this money, the axemen are more motivated to join Mel’s cause and decide to spend some of their 1090 GP each to buy equipment for themselves.

After splitting the money and enjoying a feast for the night, they decide to rest 2 days for everyone to recover before setting out again.

While resting, Mel decides to hire another group of 6 men by telling tales of her exploits of looting the shrine. Some men are attracted to this tale and agree to travel with Mel on her next adventure.
